Martin Smith is an artist who makes contemporary automatons and mechanical sculpture. He creates humorous macabre figures, which are beautifully crafted from wood and metal whose principal aim is to entertain and charm. Mechanisms are exposed in order to deny any secrecy; it is reassuring and immensely satisfying to observe the hypnotic motion of the cams and levers. Working from his studio in the North of England, UK. Martin has been developing and producing his intriguing sculptures since 1993. His work has been welcomed into art galleries, public spaces, corporate corridors and people's homes. |
